Montealto registers 10 MW of the total 90 MW assigned domestically for photovoltaic installations
Córdoba, 23 April 2009 Montealto Energy, a subsidiary of the Montealto Corporation, has registered a total of 10 MW out of the total quota of 90 MW assigned in the Advanced Allocation Registry, associated with the quota corresponding to the 2nd invitation to tender of the Ministry of Industry. The company will develop a ground-mounted photovoltaic park in the town of Saelices (Cuenca), which will entail an investment of some 50 million euros and will generate 11,000 kWh per year, which is equivalent to supplying 4200 homes and a savings of some 10,000 tonnes of carbon dioxide per year. The Saelices system will have 10 MW of power and will be executed using solar tracking technology. Montealto will run the entire project, thanks to its diversification and using the accrued experience of its different business lines. After the promotion period has ended, the engineering, construction and start up phases will be implemented. Subsequently, after plant construction, Montealto will manage both its operation and maintenance tasks when the plant is in operation. Montealto has an additional 50 MW pre-allocated in the provinces of Soria, Córdoba, Seville and Badajoz, which will be registered in upcoming quota assignments. In the words of Ramón Martos, Montealto’s director of engineering, ‘obtaining 10 of the 90 MW that have been registered represents an important step for Montealto and is proof of the level and experience that we have demonstrated in the field of photovoltaic energy. Remember that the new Royal Decree 1578/2008 for Photovoltaic Installations establishes an extremely-demanding regulation for new systems. This has meant that sectorial companies have to take thorough measures in executing projects that meticulously comply with the established regulations’. Renewable energies: a strategic sector for Montealto The Energy business line is one of Montealto’s strategic activities and its commitment to renewable energies is a clear example of its mission to work with sustainable development. Montealto Energy has the objective to offer complete service for the growing energy demands required by modern-day society, via the development of different sources of renewable energy, centring its activities in the sectors of photovoltaic, solar thermal, wind, biomass and hydraulic energies. All together, it currently has 36 projects underway with an estimated power of 693 MW. The area of photovoltaic solar energy is one of the most dynamic. Throughout 2008, Montealto successfully implemented 11 ground-mounted, photovoltaic solar parks that add up to a total of 60 MW (under RD 661), which are located in Andalucía and Extremadura. Concretely, eight of the parks are located in Córdoba and the other three are in Malaga, Jaén and Badajoz, respectively. The company is presently working on the execution of over 100 MW that are ground mounted and in different phases of execution that have been allocated in advance. With respect to roof-mounted systems, Montealto is revaluing this asset for buildings and warehouses, unproductive until now, to complete an installed base of 8 MW by the end of 2009. The total investment to execute these projects is 500 million euros.
